Brenda Blackman

Active board member for 7 years

Why did you decide to join the Bike Safe I M board?

I am close personal friends with the Bearden Family.  Following Ian’s accident, I wanted to be a part of a bike education organization that paid it forward.

Why is children’s bike safety important to you?

We should always be focused on child safety.  I have grandchildren and have taught them from a very early age about bike safety and the importance of wearing a helmet.

What value do you believe Bike Safe I M provides to the community?

Bicycle safety promotes safety practices to reduce the risk associated with cycling. By executing the mission of Bike Safe I M we will help decrease the number of incidents occurring with cyclists young and old.

In what way(s) do you think our community could improve children’s bike safety initiatives?

Children are our future and they are the heart of our communities’ future. Starting safety initiatives near schools and in areas where youth often walk and bike, first and foremost creates a safer environment for children. Additionally, prioritizing the needs of bicyclists can form an integral piece of a plan to meet larger safety goals.

What’s your favorite part about being on the Bike Safe I M board?

My favorite part of being a board member is the friendship with all board members as well as the ability to make a difference in the lives of children.

What goals do you hope to see Bike Safe I M accomplish in the next 5 years?

I hope Bike Safe I M continues to grow and share the message of bike safety.  It would be great if we could get additional children involved with our grassroots level of sharing the message of bike safety.
